Virgin Media HD TV £19.50 and Broadband offers if you live in Dulwich

July 31st, 2009 by eShop600

Local Information for Dulwich and Broadband and HD TV from Virgin Media

Dulwich is a suburb located for the most part in the London borough of Southwark, although some parts are found in the borough of Lambeth. Dulwich, together with East Dulwich and West Dulwich lie in a fertile valley, between several other suburbs close by. 967 AD is the first recorded mention of the hamlet of Dulwich outside London, and the name is believed to have been taken from ‘Dill’ (a white flower) and ‘wihs’ (damp meadow) so the name would translate to ‘meadow where the dill grows’. Tour this place where the dill grows in your car and explore the delights of Dulwich.

Edward Alleyn, an Elizabethan actor, received spiritual enlightenment and constructed schools and almshouses around Dulwich – many of them bear evidence of their founder’s new found generosity (for example ‘Dulwich College of God’s Goft’, founded in 1619). The original school and almshouses are now attached to a chapel, the Edward Alleyn Chapel, where he is buried.

In 1840 the school was moved to another building to accommodate the expanding number of students – this building is now home to the Estate’s Govenors. In the 1600s the Dulwich Woods were a popular place for Charles I to hunt, and a spa was discovered in 1739. Dulwich Wood was once part of the Great North Wood, and it is said that many oak trees in the wood were owned by the Dulwich College of God’s Gift.

Take your car for a drive around the town and see the various sites that have made Dulwich famous, including popular landmarks and buildings such as Dulwich Park, opened in 1890. This former farmland has been transformed into a pleasant recreational area, including duck ponds, a children’s play ground, a café, and a path for horse riding. Park your car and take a stroll in the fresh air, maybe imagine you’re in the country with the ducks and horses passing you as you walk.

Get Virgin Media Digital TV for only £19.50 per month and choose your own TV Packages. You get over 160 channels to choose from and 45 of them are totally free with Virgin Media. You can also get Broadband and wireless from Virgin Media along with Mobile Phones on contract and pay as you go..

Comet Store in Charing Cross has a sale on electrical appliances save money

July 31st, 2009 by eShop600

Comet electrical store have a massive sale now on if you live in Charing Cross London – Huge savings on electrical goods like LCD TVs, Blu Ray DVD Players, Computers, Games Consols, Appliances and more!

Charing Cross is recognised as the official centre of London – distances to the city from other areas are always listed as being a certain distance from Charing Cross.

It is located in the borough of Westminster and the name comes from the hamlet of Charing. Edward I placed a cross there in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castile, (this was the last of 12 places her coffin rested in her funeral procession from Lincolnshire to Westminster, and at each place Edward erected an Eleanor cross). The cross at Charing is a relocated Victorian version more ornate than the original and much larger.

The original location of the Eleanor cross in Charing was actually at the top of Whitehall, south of Trafalgar Square, in the village of Charing. At the village, the Thames makes a 90 degree turn, and ‘cearring’ in Old English is said to mean ‘bend in the river’, although other schools of thought hold that the French for ‘Dear Queen’, being chere reine, is the cognate of the name. In any case, the cross at Charing gave rise to the name of the modern day suburb. Take a drive in your car through the area and discover the Eleanor cross.

When Charing Cross railway was constructed the arches underneath the rail became a bit of a gathering post for the disenfranchised of London – the salubrious, homeless and poor collected there and it obtained the reputation of being a cruising site for drugs and prostitution.

Get unlimited texts on a one month contract with 3 mobile Guildford

July 31st, 2009 by eShop600

Join the 3 network and get 15GB of Mobile Broadband for only £15 per month. To see fantastic broadband deals and offers at 3 network click here

Located 50 kilometres from London in your car is the county town (or county capital) of Surrey, Guildford. Surrey Council has its administrative headquarters in Kingston-Upon-Thames which used to be in Surrey but is now in Greater London.

It has been said that Guildford was settled by Saxons after the Romans had been removed from Britain – this was about 410AD. At the time there was an ancient pathway, the Harrow Way, crossing the River Wey via a ford close to where Guildford is located nowadays. This was the reason for the second half of the name – the first have is believed to be because there might have been golden flowers or sand by the ford.

In a book, Guildford is named as the fictional town of Astolat, in Arthurian legends. Astolat is said to be the home of Elaine, the ‘fair maiden of Astolat’. This gives rise to the names of a local pub – the Astolat – and the Astolat Model Railway Circle. Drive around Astolat – oops, Guildford! – in your car, and see what other places may have been named after this ancient city.

From 978, Guildford was the location of the Royal Mint, and Guildford Castle is said to be from Saxon times. It overlooks the path that would have been taken by people walking the Pilgrims’ Way, and perhaps the ford that crossed the river so long ago.

The Pilgrims’ Way is the track said to have been taken by people travelling from Winchester in Hampshire to Canterbury in Kent, to visit the grave of Thomas Becket. Park your car and see if you can find part of this ancient path, and perhaps take a stroll along it.

Vodafone Mobile Phones for Woldingham Free line rental for 3 months

July 31st, 2009 by eShop600

Get the Blackberry Storm free, get 3 months line rental free, all this from Vodafone. Click this link to vew the Black Berry Storms SHOW ME THE BLACKBERRY STORMS

Perched high on the North Downs between Oxted and Warlingham, the small village of Woldingham in Surrey offers the enjoyment of rural living within easy reach of urban centres such as Croydon.

This upmarket village features the smallest church in England, St Agatha’s. The tiny space only seats 40 parishioners and was built prior to the 13th century. The village’s shopping parade, opposite the village green, is known locally as ‘The Crescent’. It features a number of specialist shops. Curiously, the village lacks the essential village pub.

Near to the village centre are a train station and The Glebe. The Glebe recreation ground offers tennis courts and cricket grounds. Golfers can take in a round at Woldingham or North Downs Golf Clubs which are just a short drive in your car.

Its countryside location means that Woldingham is well-placed for countryside pursuits. Drag hunts are held regularly on the North Downs. Many stables are located close to the village offering accommodation for horses and riding lessons.

Vodafone Small Business also offer free overseas roaming, free laptop computers, broadband and 30 day contract sim cards.

Get the Acer Aspire laptop free with the 3g network in Leatherhead

July 30th, 2009 by eShop600

Join the 3g network and get 15GB of Mobile Broadband for only £15 per month. To see fantastic broadband deals and offers at 3 network click here

Leatherhead is located on the River Mole, in the county of Surrey, and is thought to be Saxon in origin. The fact that it was settled at the junction of important north-south and east-west transport routes sealed the fate of Leatherhead as a transport hub over the centuries. The bridge over the Mole was first built in the early medieval era, and then later there was a coach house that served passing traffic for over 300 years. To the east of the town is where the old Roman road, Stane Street, passed. The street is now mostly built over, although in some parts it remains as footpaths – park your car and see if you can find some of the ancient road in and around Leatherhead. Nowadays, the M25 (London’s ‘Ring Road’ of 118 miles) passes by.

The town is mentioned in 880AD, and then in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Leddrede, which is though to mean ‘place where the people can ride across the river’. The bulk of the residents appear to have been on the east side of the Mole, and the west side may have been a Saxon burial ground.

In the 11th century the church began construction, and in 1248 it was granted a Royal Charter to hold a weekly market and annual fair – the market served to bolster the developing agricultural industry at the crossroads. The public house known as the Running Horse dates back to 1403 – but don’t let that fool you, the beer is cold and the food is great. Get there in your car and spend a few lazy hours being fed, watered and entertained as you would have been many centuries ago. The Royal Oak is another great inn, but there are several more so take your pick – just remember, if you are going to frequent several pubs in the one afternoon, leave your car at home!

Free laptop computers with 15GB Broadband with 3 network Chingford

July 30th, 2009 by eShop600

Join the 3 network and get 15GB of Mobile Broadband for only £15 per month. To see fantastic broadband deals and offers at 3 network click here

Chingford is a charming town just outside London that has been in existence for over one thousand years. Next to Epping Forest and King George’s Reservoir the town is full of historical lore and unique landmarks. With modern construction and developments, and a commuter railway line that began hundreds of year ago, shepherding home owners into the cities for work the town is a unique combination of both the old and the new. This area is easily accessible by car.

While in your car stay on the lookout for Queen Elizabeth’s hunting lodge which has been around in various altered states since the days of King Henry VIII, who used it to scout out deer. Tourists thoroughly enjoy this little piece of history within Chingford and are in awe of the building’s longevity and royal roots.

This town still retains its old country charm with quaint farmhouses and river bank cottages dotting the landscape. In fact, despite Chingford’s age and its railways which allowed it to become one of the first commuter cities, modern development did not enter the city until relatively recently. If you have time, take your car throughout the town and glimpse these old farmhouses, the newer and much more modern housing developments, the old railway line and have a stop for some quick shopping along Station Road or at Chingford Mount.

Perhaps famous for tennis above all else (after all, the Wimbledon Tennis Championship has been held there for 100 years), Wimbledon is actually a suburb of London, located in the Merton borough of London. Get there by car or tube and see the world’s greatest tennis championship.

The name Wimbledon is thought to be taken from the Old English for ‘Wynnman’s Hill’ (with hill translated as ‘dun’). After a long history of changes, the current name is believed to have been settled on sometime in the 1800s. That’s a huge change from the original recorded ‘Wimbedounyng’ in 967! Settlement in Wimbledon is thought to date back to the Iron Age, with a fort being constructed on the common. What is now known as ‘the village’ was back then the original centre of the town. Use your car to travel to the common for a picnic or stroll.

The manor of Wimbledon belonged to the church until 1398 when the Archbishop of Canterbury fell out of favour with Richard II, and it became royal property. It was held by Henry VIII’s wife Catherine Parr until her death in 1548 when it again became crown property. Henry’s daughter Mary I gave the manor to a Cardinal of the church until his death in 1558, when it again became crown property.

Later, in the 1600s, Wimbledon grew popular with wealthy families due to its closeness to London, and in 1613 Robert Bell built Eagle House to use as a home close to the city. Even later still, in the 1900s, Wimbledon’s popularity increased again and further, and residential expansion had peaked by 1930. During WWII many houses were destroyed and so building began to turn the old large houses and blocks into apartments – and parts of Wimbledon Park were also developed for those whose houses had been demolished by bombs.

Get 15GB Mobile Broadband for only £15 per month if you live in Blackheath

July 29th, 2009 by eShop600

Join the 3 network and get 15GB of Mobile Broadband for only £15 per month. To see fantastic broadband deals and offers at 3 network click here

The village of Blackheath lies on the border of the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham. Here you will step back in time to a charming place that is centred on a large heath that was thought to have been so named because of the burial of hundred of victims of the Black Death there although this is not true. When you visit this interesting and peaceful place with your car be sure to stop to see the All Saints Parish Church situated on the heath. It is impossible to miss with its tall spire and 1850’s architecture.

In this village there are many pubs, restaurants and shops that you can enjoy while staying here like the Blackheath Standard which takes its name after the Blackheath pub. Other places of interest include the Victorian park dating back to the 1700’s called Cator Estate. Travelling through here in your car will allow you to see many original Victorian and Edwardian style homes. Some of them have had 1930’s and 40’s additions to them.

One of the most amazing times to visit this village in your car is during the month of November when a massive fireworks display is held on the heath for the entire village and neighbouring towns. This exhibition is free to attend and has become one of the most famous and biggest displays in the UK attracting over 40 thousand people. For sporting enthusiast you may be interested to know that it was here that the game of golf was first introduced to England in the 1600’s as well as the game of hockey in the 19th century.
