The West Surrey town of Woking dates back to the followers of Wocca, a Wessex tribe, settling in the area in 673 AD. Its name has changed over the years, having been referred to as Wochinges in the 1086 Domesday Book which showed its owners as William the Conquerer, Ansgot and Bishop Osbern of Exeter.
The arrival of a train station in the 1850s saw the beginnings of modern Woking. Its train connections provided access to southern reaches of England.
