Local Information for Sunbury-on-Thames

Sunbury-on-Thames lies to the west of London in the Spelthorne Borough of Surrey. Sunbury has excellent transportation links and many of its residents now commute into Central London.

Once an ancient riverside settlement its history can be dated back to the Bronze Age with the discovery of funerary urns dating from the 10th century BC.

The town has been mentioned in literary works, most notably St. Mary’s church and the nearby Ferry House, in Charles Dickens’ book Oliver Twist. Jerome K Jerome also mentioned the difficulty of rowing up the river in his book ‘Three men in a boat’

The Sunbury Millennium Embroidery is a permanent, commemorative record which celebrates the ancient riverside village of Sunbury and its community at the beginning of the year 2000.
