Local Information for Petts Wood

Petts Wood is a village in the London Borough of Bromley. The name first appeared in the year 1577 in the form of a family of ship builders, the Pett family. The daylight inn in Petts Wood was named in honor of William Willett who was a campaigner for Daylight Savings Time and lived in the nearby town of Chislehurst for a large part of his life.

The village of Petts Wood also has a pub named The Sovereign of the Seas. The city is connected by a railway station which is located between the towns of Bickley and Orpington. Petts Wood has a splendid park known as the Jubilee Country Park which serves as a recreational ground for both residents and visitors alike. The park is situated towards the northwest of the shopping area and is also home to various rare and endangered species.

Most of the town was built in the early 20th century as a high quality estate in a rural setting. The area sustained heavy bombing during WW2 because of its proximity to an important railway junction.

Charles de Gaulle, the former President of France, lived in Petts Wood, for part of the Second World War.
