Local Information for The Stoneleigh
Stoneleigh is a small area in Surrey situated in the Epsom and Ewell district. The village was developed around the Stoneleigh Railway Station and the Broadway. This area was only developed in the 1930’s and until then was basically farm land and open fields. There is a red brick Anglican Church that was built here at that time. With your car you can explore this lovely place and view the parks that were part of Nonsuch Palace.
This palace was one of the Tudor palaces that Henry the Eighth lived in and was destroyed in the 17th century. Many pieces were sold to be used in other buildings, but the only remains of the banqueting hall are at the British Museum which you can visit with your car. The royal hunting grounds were sold off into farmlands, but some of them remain today as Nonsuch Park. In this park you will find The Mansion House to the west built in the 1800’s.
The Bowling Green Farmhouse and Coldharbour farmhouse were the original farms in this area and the owner John Stone built a house for himself that he called Stoneleigh. This is how the area got its name. Currently there are only 4500 people living in this village which makes it so quaint and friendly to visit with your car.
