Butlins has teamed up with an university in order to introduce a foundation degree that i
s for ambitious Redcoats. The holiday company has joined the University of Chichester, which is located in West Sussex, for the introduction of a musical theater performance course next moth at their Bognor Regis campus. Over the two years taking the course, the students will be studying performance ability, rehearsals, and productions, which may turn out to be followed with a third year in the program in order to complete a Hons in music.
A spokeswoman for Butlins said that they are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in offering this program, and if they can create some stars through the program, then that is only a good thing. The Redcoats have been renowned for having tough training, she continued, and in joining forces with Chichester’s University, they are showing their commitment to provide top quality entertainment from Butlins.
Officials of the University said that the course will help to increase levels of skill and will see Butlins combine their business of entertainment with an educational enterprise. The Redcoats were made popular by the television series Hi-de-Hi!, featuring Yellowcoats, and the candidates chosen have to go through some rigorous training for entertainment. Many stars have the chance to begin their career by starting out as a Redcoat. Some of the famous ones are Ian H. Watkins, Des O’Connor, Jimmy Tarbuck, Darren Day, and Michael Barrymore. The famous uniform was created after Billy Butlin, the founder of Butlins, realized that entertainment should be from the heart of Butlins. Over the years, popular designers, like Jeff Banks and Zandra Rhodes, have redesigned the uniforms.
