ASDA Criticized Over Inappropriate Disney Underwear

ASDA, the supermarket chain, is being criticized for the sale of sexually suggestive underwear for girls.  The underwear, which is for girls of around the age of 7, is to promote High School Musical, the popular Disney movie, and have the words Dive In on the front.  This phrase is in reference to a part of the movie where the characters are diving into a pool.  However, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, as well as the National Union of Teachers, have criticized the knickers, marking them as inappropriate.  A National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children spokesman said that this is a part of a concerning trend of inappropriate clothes that is marketed to young children.

Beijing 2008 Olympics

As many people tune into the Olympics in Beijing many people are not out shopping which has had a large impact on retail stores in the UK especially in London. Leading up to the Olympics however there was a huge surge in LCD TV’s as well as Plasma and other large flat screen televisions. In an article by the Daily Telegraph it was reported that a massive 70% of retailer’s stock carries over 32 Inch TV’s. John Lewis a very popular UK brand reported sold one TV per minute as people started buying larger television systems.

ASDA Test Revamped Logo While George Prepares For Relaunch

ASDA has been testing out a revised logo for George, the clothing giant, as the brand prepares for its September relaunch. The logo, which consists of white letters in lower case with a splash of yellow over the G, has gone through testing on the School Shop brochure of the supermarket, which is handed out in stores that have the George clothing brand. Both the George brand and ASDA Direct, the online services from the grocer, will be launched at the same time.

ASDA Reduces Fuel Prices Again

On Wednesday of last week, ASDA launch their latest attack during the escalating price war over fuel between the biggest supermarkets in the United Kingdom, and they announced their second price cut of as much as 3% throughout their 171 fuel station forecourts. The chain, which is owned by Wal-Mart in America, said that they are cutting their unleaded fuel prices by 2 pence and their diesel by 4 pence, making their prices 111.9 pence a litre and 124.9 pence a litre respectively. The week before that they decreased their prices by 3 pence.

Property Website Launched from ASDA

ASDA, the supermarket giant, has launched a new online portal for property, which is called www.homesinstore.co.uk.  This website is designed to let their customers buy property while shopping online, and it will allow the sellers of the property to advertise the home or rental they are selling on the website.  The cost for advertising in the stores of the organization and online both is only 35 pounds per week.  However, this second biggest supermarket in the United Kingdom has made it very clear that an estate agency is not what they have created.
